US were flat the entire tournament unfortunately. Hopefully Freddy Adu finally turns things around so he can become the great player everyone thinks he will be and makes the next US squad.

Hate to break it to you, but yesterday on PTI Freddy said next season he will be playing international ball not for the U.S., and the next World Cup he will play for Ghana. Pretty sweet that he comes into MLS with all this hype, gets millions in endoursements, then takes off. I hope the MLS lost a lot of money to him. When will we that the United States cannot and will not ever win a World Cup? In the history of the Cup, we were in the finals once? I'm surprised we got that far. Frankly, I'm overjoyed that we lost to Ghana. Good for them, small country like that now gains some recognition and shows that it does not take huge amounts of money, top of the line training, and a seemless endless amount of athletes to win. When it comes down to it, we are not producing soccer players. Sure, I will never wish bad upon any U.S. team of any sport, but I will also never expect a victory in soccer. Didn't they say this was the best team we ever had? God I hate soccer, or pretty much any sport that involves acting to win (except WWF).

He said he plans to leave for international competition the first chance he gets and that he can't decide whether or not to play for the US or Ghana.

LOL THEY SURE DO DIVE A LOT!!!!! Once you get into soccer, you look beyond that aside from the most obvious dives. Also you're kidding yourself if you don't think faking happens in other sports. I think that the US has a great coach and a great team, they just lack a sure finisher. Landon Donovan was suppose to fill that void, but he really hasn't done that well in international competition outside of CONCACAF.

Oh I totally agree that faking happens in other sports. I am a Chicago White Sox and AJ Pierzynski fan. But man, they sure do take A LOT of dives resulting in yellows and reds.
For 2 years I lived with an idiot that LOVED soccer, he now works for the Chicago Fire. I've seen all the greats play, all his DVDs of the greatest matches in history, and the stupidass MLS. I'm still sorely unimpressed by the sport. Two of the few players I have ever enjoyed watching though have been Landon Donovan and Demarcus Beasley, and I can't figure out how they didn't produce.

We got beat up and down the field and had some bad breaks. The great teams overcome, we just arent great. We have alot of talent. Another thing is our season is 180 degrees off from the International soccer schedule. And our level of play is equivalent to maybe AA or AAA baseball compared to the major leagues. In summation we got out played, definitely out coached and didnt overcome our bad breaks. Suprised me though, I figured we would at least make it to the second round Doesnt matter though 'cause Ghana has to play BRAZIL next LOLOLOL and that game is kinda like Ghana = GW Bush and Brazil = The constitution

I said other sports, not all sports. THAT WAS A FUNNY JOKE THOUGH LIKE WHEN MICHAEL BARRETT PUNCHED AJ OR THE CUBS FRANCHISE. Either way, to each their own. Everyone has their own tastes in sports, I'm just hoping you're not simply liking the sport due the the diving. I'm glad to see the bigtime crackdown on diving in this world cup though.

Soccer players, at the international level, are pure athletes the equal of which are unknown in most major US sports. At least 90% of MLB players wouldn't last an entire half of soccer, not to mention football and basketball players. Of course, they are completely different sports and require different training, but as far as pure athleticism and stamina go soccer is one of the most demanding sports there is (except for such silliness as triathlons which are just insane). And the negative of diving is NOTHING compared to the negative of rampant steroid use in baseball and football, which simply steals almost all credibility from the sports.
I despise the current state of sport in the US and dream of the day when soccer becomes a big enough sport to where we'll be able to compete internationally.

Either way, to each their own. Everyone has their own tastes in sports, I'm just hoping you're not simply liking the sport due the the diving. No no, I think you misunderstood me. I hate soccer with a burning passion, and a contributing factor of that hatred is the diving. For sure, soccer is one of the most physically demanding sports in existance. However, the amount of skill and athleticism is not saving it. It is still horribly boring, annoying, and euro-trash. But I agree, to each his own, I personally love baseball and I know people hate it because they call it boring, and I can respect that. Two more things that reminded me why I hate soccer; World Cup-level games (which are the most important in the sport) ending in ties. I just can't understand why you would have a bracket setup in order to judge who is the best in the world and allow ties. And advertisements on jerseys really bug me too. Advertisements to the point where if you were just an ignorant onlooker and look on the guy's jersey and can reasonibly think that he is playing for the Sierra Mist team.

As if MLB isn't overy commercialized with all of the sponsorships, stadiums with names like Safeco Field, dugouts with advertisements on the wall, etc. Soccer just cut to the chase, not to mention you won't find any company logos on the World Cup jerseys.
And if you think the games end in ties, then you really don't understand the way the World Cup runs. Teams score points based on the outcomes of games, even draws, and advancement (at least in the group round) is based on these points. Now that the World Cup has moved into the round of 16, there are no more ties allowed. If a game is tied at the end, there are two 15-minute periods at the end of which whoever is winning wins. If, after the overtime periods it is still tied, they go to penalty shots to decide a winner. So, in reality, there are no "ties", not in the way you're thinking of them.
