I think stas is just being sarcastic about our stupidity in the middle east, and that being results of our democracy.

But we haven't democratically voted for war in some time.  Congress hasn't voted to Declare War since WWII, which is the DEMOCRATIC way to go to war.  But Congress would rather not take a stand, and just let shit happen, and then say they didn't take a stand and should therefore be re-elected.

That's how we've gotten into all of these evil wars.  But as I've laid out, those weren't democratically determined or fueled wars.
