Problem

Let?s assume i borrow $100 from you. I go to the store but lose the money on the way. I meet my other friend at the store and borrow $50 from him. Still at the store i buy two candy bars at $10 apiece for the total of $20. I have $30 remaining which i pay back to you. Now i owe you $70 and my other friend $50 for the total of $120.
In addition i have two candy bars worth $20. Where is the other $10?

edit:corrected some wording for Angel.

i owe $120 plus i have two bars worth $20 for the total of $140.
i borrower $100 + $50 for the total of $150.

$10 is the difference.

Stop blacking out and spending money on cheap hookers and maybe you wouldn't have this problem.

$10.00 candy bars?  Where the fuck do you live?  1970's Russia?  I'd forget the missing $10.00 and stop buying candy bars from that store.

it doesn't work that way...

you lost $100, bought 2 candy bars for $20, and and gave me $30.  For $150.

you owe me $70 (because you game me $30 ) & you owe your other dipshit friend $50.  that's $150.

My answer is correct.  If you want me to explain further I can, but don't pretend like I didn't get it Tongue Tongue

Go ahead explain Smiley. The important part here is not the right answer, its the explanation. I actually got the right answer already from someone in the pm but with the wrong reasoning.

This really doesn't have anything to do with math, it's just a stupid trick.

When the question asks "Where is the $10" it does not distinguish between "Total Still Owed" and "Amount Originally Loaned" which are completely different questions.  The "$10" in question was repayed with the $30 repayment, and is only noticed as $10 because of it's difference from the price in candy bars ($20), and the amount repayed ($30).

LOL Zera, you win just for the picture man hahaha

The right answer is that no money is actually lost. At the end i have 120 in assets (100 lost (yes an asset) + 2 candy bars) and i owe 120 (70+50). It all works out.

The point here is that most people quickly figure out that no money is actually lost, but those with advance degrees such as MBA's spend countless hours trying to solve this problem.

WTF is different from explaining it by using the word "assets" and explaining it the way Q did? He put it exactly as it needed to be explained.

I agree with DM.  Q was right, heck even Evicted was right with his two word response "What $10?"
