The old dude at the end "Ray Comfort" hosted his own evangelical presentation a few years ago, when he compared a coke can to a banana, and said that clearly, the banana is more complex, and thus it too must have had a creator, like the coke can did. Here it is, very funny, and 1 minute long: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGMuIyBK5P4&feature=relatedAfter the filming and publication, someone who had taken a biology class pointed out to him that the banana has been bred for hundreds of years by humans to reach the size it has today, and that in fact, "God's Banana" was very small and looked nothing like modern bananas. Richard Dawkins has nicknamed him the "Banana fool"

"We need unskilled workers. We need you." Way to sell it... Hah. Yeah, Kirk Cameron is "special." He hosts on the christian channels pretty frequently, and these days he "acts" exclusively in christian themed movies, because clearly God would have punished him if he kept doing evil secular sitcoms... I have to say, I'm surprised by the "undeniable Hitler connection"; That sounds like such a scumbag move that I can't believe anyone signed off on it. Just goes to prove that Kirk's an evil little bastard at heart. Over 60% of college professors are atheists or agnostic now? Fuckin' A, how's that for a move in the right direction. I still hold out high hopes that atheists will become the majority within our lifetime. Wouldn't that be awesome? Not to rip-off Lennon too much, but just imagine it: - Gay marriage could be passed without the severely ignorant voting it down. (Because yeah, every single person of the 53% of Maine that voted it down committed an evil and unforgivable act of bigotry, easily on par with telling blacks and women that they can't vote)
- Doctors won't be killed because some wing-nut thinks god wants them dead.
- Children won't grow up with a chance of being exorcised because they squirm in church. (Don't laugh, that happens. Happened to me when I was 5)
- We can actually force the phrase "In God we Trust" off our money, and point out to any asshole who tries to make a stand on that one that it was illegal in the first place. (Separation of church and state, anyone?)
- Bigotry in general will be severely curtailed. Some people are just hardwired to hate, and no matter what the world believes there will be violent, hateful assholes... but taking away religion takes away an assload of excuses.
One day... Hopefully one day soon. I'm getting sick of having people who've known me and liked me for years start suddenly looking at me as if I raped their dog when I tell them I'm an atheist. It's just getting old; People with the balls to tell me that I'm somehow infringing their rights by speaking out loud about my thoughts in an area where they've had the monopoly on loud public gestures for as long as anyone can remember. But I rant... I actually love this video, and I hope Kirk keeps it up. Shit like this helps my "religious" cause a lot more than it helps his.

The part I found most offensive was "our kids are growing up atheists, without even being presented the alternative" LOL WUT WTF. In what world does someone think that they could grow up in the US and not be bombarded by Christian messages. The offensiveness that people who consider themselves atheist or agnostic merely because they haven't been presented the alternative is could not be farther from the truth. At this point in my life nearly all of my friends and co-workers are atheists or agnostic (or both), and all of them have given the topic extreme amounts of thought and consideration. It's not exactly a conclusion you come to easily, with the endless threats on your eternal damnation that the successful religions make. Most of them grew up religious, and the idea that there is anyone in the US who has somehow magically avoided the religious message, and just stumbled upon atheism because their college professor said so is just tremendously offensive. I think they said 60% of Philosophy and Biology professors are atheist. That is probably about right, given that the majority of US colleges are small and crappy. 95% of members of the "National Academy of Sciences" with Biology expertise are Atheist, which is the highest among the sciences, and the lowest being Mathematics, with only 85% being atheist. Our generation (20-30 year olds) sits at 20% atheist or agnostic and growing, with another 40-50% of our age group who are non-practicing "religious", so the trend is clear. Our parents generation were roughly 9% atheist, and so it's just a matter of time at this point. Ahh...
Growing Pains was a weird show.
the trend towards atheism will stay the course until some significant moral outrage makes the weak minded seek religion to assuage guilt.
those numbers zera quoted most of the respondents probably didn't put much thought into their responses.

Which numbers?
Atheism estimates are very consistent no matter where you look.

Yeah... It's funny, but when the premise you're trying to put across is "Religion is the single most malevolent and damaging force in history," you frequently don't get people from the other side willing to discuss with you for some reason. Who knew?
Not always a bad thing. I put up a post on a conservative blog last week about the gay marriage ban in Maine and had a dozen fundis respond with how they thought I grossly misinterpreted the bible when I explained clearly, with direct passages to back me up, that it preaches just as much evil and ill-will as it does anything else. One of them wrote a good 7 pages on how God says its OK to hate the fags; He even killed them on a few occasions! Lovely bunch of people.

I'm with Zera, you were better off being "offensive." I'm not insulting people when I talk about how truly evil religion is, I'm insulting religion. If people want to take offense to that, that's their prerogative, but that picture you posted didn't contain a single lie. Reposted for truth. You simply can't be a religious person without willfully choosing not to apply logic to portions of your life. Yes, most religious people are kind, intelligent, rational, peaceful people... But that just means they don't follow the teachings of the bible all that closely. In fact, if you show me a truly open-minded christian, I'll show you a "bad christian." Say what you will about the Westboro Baptist church; At least they're not hypocrites. If you really read the entire bible cover to cover (Which I've done twice in my life), it becomes impossible to see it as anything more than a collection of poorly written stories. Some have alright morals, some are just outright evil... Some are violent, some are bigoted, some are downright pornographic. A ridiculously large portion of the bible is misogynistic. It's not something to live your life by...

I'm told I first discovered my penis as a plaything in the front row of a church, but that was years after the exorcism. That would lead me to believe the process was a failure, if nothing else.
