Sitting home all day long, i decided to play some of the single player games i've missed over the last 6 or so years. My last single player game that i finished was Quake 4. Right now i'm putting together a list of games i should get. In order of playing them: - Metro 2033
- Far Cry 2
- Crysis & Crysis Warhead
- Doom 3
- HL2 Episodes 1 and 2
- Bioshock 1 & 2
- Stalker (finish the series)
I'm also thinking about including Mass Effect into the list but not sure since its a third-person perspective. What do you think of the list so far? Am i forgetting any games that i should include? I just want to hit the best games over the last few years. Don't want to spend time on crappy and mediocre titles. Finally, i don't want to include any heavyweight multi-player games because i won't have time to play them. Looking forward to Rage later this year as well. |

I found Metro a little lacking graphically, and feel-wise.
Howitzer absolutely loves Far Cry 2, but I thought it was tedious and drawn out.
Doom 3 is entertaining for what it is, though it really is a throw-back gameplay style in a way that can get repetive. For instance; Remember "monster closets"? Did you miss them? It really is a lot of fun, Doom 3, but it's the kind of game you may want to play in chunks. The expansion includes a gravity-gun type thing, though. Kind of cool.
HL2 Eps 1 and 2: 1 I thought was a little lacking, but two was absolutely brilliant, so these are well worth your time.
Bioshock 1 and 2: Can't say enough good things about these titles. A beautiful engine, creative gameplay, and a pretty twisted story full of anti-commie propaganda. Very, very neat.
ME2 is also well worth your time, by the by. Big improvement over 1, and very compelling beginning to end.
Have you played Fallout New Vegas, per chance, and it's DLCs? Because the age of it's engine may be the only legitimate argument for not calling this a GOTY. Can't wait for the final DLC, they've built up the story for it expertly.

I'm looking forward to BF3. Sad there won't be a commander, but I secretly suspect they'll add that inside a major update.

I'd swap out one of those for Mass Effect 2, skip 1. I did and it didnt really matter at all, went back to try and play 1 after 2 and it was horrible compared to the sequel. The Dragon Age games were pretty good as well if you like third person / rpg style. If you like the Doom 3 / Quake 4 dark corridor shooter vibe I highly recommend the Dead Space games. You can grab them on steam. I think Dead Space 2 plays better than the original but they are both very good. Also as a shameless plug for my own recent work you can check out the demo for Space Marine. I tried to pitch a Jailbreak mode but they didn't seem to bite heh. |

the forums are alive with the sound of gaming! I agree with Garr and Zera, Battlefield 3 is going to be sick, but I gotsta add Rage to the list, that game looks bad-ass.

Dead Island is a little bit awesome. Just a few hours into it, but it's already a lot bigger and more ambitious than I'd have thought.
The gameplay feel isn't stellar, which detracts at first, but once you get your aim down and mouse sensitivity right, it becomes ridiculously enthralling.

Oh man, sometimes i get scared playing some of these games  I am going crazy listening to sounds in Metro right now. No sleep tonight for sure. I'm very disappointed with Rage but HL2 and Metro are proven to be very very good. |
