Okay so a few years ago I built my buddy some websites for his businesses he runs... I used Mix's service Made2own. I figured wtf help two guys out in 1 shot. Never had a problem with the service until my buddy I made the sites for calls me up today and said the site's been down for the past couple weeks.
I have all the files backed up to a certain date, I used joomla, etc.. so re-uploading etc shouldn't be a problem. But there is a lot of crap if you google "made2own" about client's pissed off and saying they've been charged for months with no service. Now I've got to deal with that with my good friend I've grown up with... ughh this sucks.
Stinger, didn't you use his service for a bit? Anyone know if I had 2 .com's registered through his company if I can transfer those 2 exact .com names to another service.

wow... i was using his service for educational purposes. I had an issue one time and it wasn't that hard to deal with them. I think i was paying like $6 a year. Now i just use good big companies for clients and use godaddy for the domain management.
let this be a lesson to never buy a domain from a small company.

Yea, nothing against Mix but apparantly he had a lot of hackers utilizing his service and I think it lead to his companies demise. Nobody can get in touch with him, have seen dozens of po'd customers. I just need to ask my client to check his bank statements to see if he is still getting charged because if so that's not good. It was a cheap service with a lot of space, but I spoke to eNom.com's tech support and they told me to contact WHMCS.com to retrieve the .com codes so I can register with another service.... oh well hope Mix is alright knew he was dealing with an illness in the family and who knows if the feds locked that dude up for the mischief he let go on through his services.
Just sucks I need to renew with a new service, upload the joomla files, make sure everything works again... bleh what a pain. Was good for 3 years, and supposedly our lease was up with him Nov 2012... gotta see if he's still billing for that lmao.

If there's a hell, I'm going there.

Nope, never used his services. He never seemed particularly serviceable.
I'm close to agreement with Qb3rt, except Godaddy is evil. Hostgator.com has been pretty good for myself, und clients.

Godaddy supported SOPA until a shitload of their customers told them to fuck off. I'll never use those pieces of shit for so much as a domain lookup now.
I used Made2Own for hosting years ago and never had any issues. Note that I said, "years ago" as I can't speak for their service now. Mix and his partner always did square by me.
I use Joomla extensively and am in the market for a new host myself. I currently use 1and1 but they haven't stayed on top of major changes (like anything remotely like a current version of PHP) so using Joomla 2.5 is out of the question until I find someone else.
