So you gave up on all your diversions related to homosexual marriage and tried yet another grand diversion to turn this into some sort of 'oil people are evil - save the environment!' thread? If you want to discuss environmentalism, please feel free to start another thread on the topic and I'll be happy to do so.

I've already offered to allow gay marriage, as long as tax breaks are not part and parcel. I have also offered to remove tax breaks from the table for straight marriages No, I understand that entirely that which is why I made the comment I did. That is a HUGE political accomplishment, and achieving all Libertarian objectives at once is impossible. However, you can work towards that, and when the costs are insignificant to achieve one of the thousands of goals on the task sheet then you've gotta go for it. Especially when it is one of the fundamentals of 'Personal Liberty'

You keep trying to argue that furthering personal liberty for minimal gain is somehow libertarian, but this is simply not the case. Indeed, it's in the opposite direction, as it increases the role of government in the lives of citizens, which is exactly what libertarians strive against. Accordingly, the libertarian position is against all state-sponsored marriages.

Right, and now think of that last sentance you said, and re-read my post. You can't win all your battles at once.

So, the obvious solution is to move in the opposite direction that you intend to go? OK...

Well, I think that the steps are both in the same direction. But clearly we disagree, and that's fine with me.
