Can’t wait… wait.. I can wait… I’m broke and need to put aside money towards it. I will stick with the PC for this, I’d attempt trying on PS3 if I had extra money to blow on something extra.
BAD NEWS FOR MW2. My buddy just called me and told me there will be no dedicated servers for MW2, which means you gonna be playin on your friends connection, or some players homemade server. Also received an email from EFU (some CoD4:MW clan who hosts a couple MW servers). And it states:
"srv, we have an official statement from Infinity Ward, unfortunately it’s not even close to what we wanted to hear.
"Here’s a summary of the Infinity Ward Dedicated Servers Saga - Modern Warfare site BashandSlash had an interview with FourZeroTwo, who stated there would be no dedicated servers or mod tools in Modern Warfare 2 for the PC version, only matchmaking. The gamers then responded by petitioning all over the IW forums and on separate petition sites. Boycotts errupted, and without any official numbers, it is fair to say that the comments read from other posts state clearly the intention of many gamers - cancel pre-orders. Infinity Ward retaliated to the assaulted by deleting the two largest threads petitioning and boycotting their game. Yesterday, a private message from FourZeroTwo on Twitter was leaked, stating: “Definitely made a big wave, and the response will not be ignored. I’ll ensure everyone at IW sees the petitions and responses to it.”
Now, several days after the initial news, Infinity Ward heads Vince Zampella and Jason West issued an official response, and things don’t look good. Jason said, “We’re just prioritizing the player experience above the modders and the tuners,” indicating the PC fans who avoided the game due to cheaters, tight rules on servers, and skill level differences. “We thought maybe it would be cool if the fans could play the game.”
The IW heads said noted several times that “hardcore PC gamers” will not lose much in this transition, ensuring that the change helps the casual and moderate fanbase. Jason makes clear that groups can still establish private matches and training under the new system, though he fails to recognize the substantial impact that ProMod and other mods have made, stating that those will cease to exist in the new version.
When GameInformer asked Zampella about piracy and its impact, he cited, “The Steam stuff helps with the piracy. I don’t know that the matchmaking stuff does.” West acknowledged that some of the reason for owning dedicated servers is to rent them out and sell adspace on them, funding clans and companies: “It’s a little dubious. Some of the people complaining are complaining with their pocketbook.”
West says that there will be no compromise to include both dedicated servers and the new system, saying it would “just bifurcate the community.”
It’s hard to believe that even with over 108,955 total signatures (at the time of sending this email) that they would still be forcing this on us. PC gamers unite."
Yep I read that a couple of days ago. Seems “iffy” to me. Looks like they are going something along the lines of how L4D operated. I’ll probably wait and see how this plays out b4 I buy.
I’m pretty upset to hear this is what they are going to do. If PC players can Host a server and then spectate I’d hope that some very nice individuals can at least “dedicate” by possibly having a separate machine stay running with the game open… don’t see how it wouldn’t work. And of course they would have to have a super-business type connection. I just really enjoyed sloppy 12+vs12+ team pickup games which is why I disliked 360/PS3 copies of the game because it was capped at like 4vs4 I think.
Just picked it up for PC from Gamestop. Funny thing happened, I put Install Disc I in and hit Setup.exe, and it opens up Steam and starts downloading the game through Steam. Heh, whatever just thought it’s funny they went that route, guess it simplifies things later on for them. The Steam store doesn’t sell the game until tomorrow 11/12. Oh well, going to start SinglePlayer now hopefully it runs nice.
Not far into singleplayer, but so far so good. And wow, I must say I am pleasantly surprised with the MP and change of format. It has worked wonderfully so far for me, only a couple games has the Host (Server runner) dropped, and it only took a couple seconds to find the new/best host to replace. Amazing game in all. Getting used to all the new maps is always hectic. Only grife with the MP is the limit on the players for certain modes. For instance, FFA is capped at 8… I loved all out brawls involving 20 players or so, heck I’d honestly be happy with a 14-16 man FFA. TDM is what it is, same as MW1, and great. Must check the new modes soon.
Nope you got PC version? How is it with 2 guys, roomie enough on these maps/levels? If you care to join up late tonite or Sunday night let me know. Steam name “jay_ryan” and nickname is “servo”.
